In general, how much do junk yards usually pay for auto parts?
The transmission in my '95 Chevy Beretta recently went and instead of dumping any more money into it (it's had quite a few expensive repairs in its history) I was thinking I should just sell it for scrap. I know I won't get a lot and that's okay.. everything else in the car is in good working condition. It has power windows/locks and a really nice CD player..
Any opinions/thoughts would be appreciated!
Kristin, We have two automotive grave yards in our area. They prop the car up front and rear with old wheel rims welded at right angles and remove the tires and wheels. People enter the yard and scrounge parts off the cars and trucks to fix and repair their own street vehicles. When an older particular car has been stripped of most of it's more valuable parts. The entire car is crushed and or baled into a square and loaded on a tractor trailer to be sold as scrap to be re-melted and used again.
Hope I gave you some idea what will finally happen to yout old loveable ride!
Beware of this: *Your car is worth much more than you think! The price of scrap metal has gone through the roof. Plus all the valuable bits and pieces that have been sold before the car is finally crushed.
