.22 Caliber Semi Auto Hammer Fired opinions?
Fallen in love with Uncle's Phoenix HP-22 Pistol as a plinker. Have plenty of other guns including 3 other .22's all revolvers. From everything I've read the Pistol is made out of pot metal except for the barrel and firing pin pieces which are hardened steel. Like it because it has a Hammer Fire you can De-Cock.
Any other .22's like this that aren't *TO* Much more then the cheap Phoenix? $186 is the best price I've found for the "Deluxe Rangemaster" Which comes with 2 barrel's and a carrying case with cleaning supplies and unique gun lock. Ir $133 for just the gun itself.
And please, no postings saying the gun's junk. It's not for defensive carry and their is a lot of people including magazines saying it's a great plinker that's reliable and accurate. The one I shot is quite accurate at 40 yards which surprised me.
In a hammer fired which is inexpensive (around $200)? Your options narrowed down to about 1, the Taurus tip barrel .22 LR. They don't come with a decocker option and the versions on the Taurus website say that they are DAO. They used to make ones that were DA/SA.
If you are willing to step up about $150 or so to the $350 - $400 range you can get into a Sig Mosquito. That's kind of a love it or hate it gun with alot of people. If I got one I'd probably send it to Bruce Gray at www.grayguns.com to get a trigger job on it before I did much shooting with it because the triggers I've shot on them stock were ... unrefined to use a euphemism. Again, hammer fired.
If you move up into the $600 - $750 that's where you get into the Beretta 87 - either the standard 87 or the 87T. Both are excellent pistols, but you are well out of the class of "inexpensive".
It's tough finding a decent .22 hammer fired pistol that is inexpensive. You already have revolvers, otherwise I'd be suggesting taking a look at some of the Charter Arms .22 revolvers.
