
please tell the procedure for removal and reinstall of a starter on a 1998 springer heritage.it springsback in
this is my friends project and theyre ALL stumped.the starter is loose but seems to want to spring back when we try to take it out.im hoping i can find the answer for them.please help.thanx,

You have to remove the primary cover.On the end of the starter shaft there is a lockplate.Bend the tabs on the lockplate and remove the bolt.You'll need a new lockplate.if you haven't already done it you need to remove the oil tank and sometimes the exhaust pipe to get room to remove the starter.I'm assuming you have removed the wires to the starter.The starter should come out now.
