Will my rental car be damaged in Palermo?
I'll be flying into Palermo from Rome, and I can get the best rate on a rental car if I pick it up at a downtown location. Trouble is, the route from the pickup point to my hotel is right through the most densely populated part of the city. I'm worried by the scary stories I've heard about Italian drivers. If I'm very careful, and drive sensibly, how likely is it that my car will be damaged by some crazy truck driver or "motociclista"?
Don't worry. Fully comprehensive rental car insurance is mandatory for Italian car rentals, and Italians don't like wrecking their trucks or motociclistas any more than you like wrecking your car.
Just go with the flow of traffic and don't be super aggressive.
