Roadkill collecting in SCC, CA?
I am wondering if there is any law against safly taking small dead animals (raccoons, possums, squirrels) that have been killed by a car, and safly and legally collecting bones and properly disposing of u wanted parts. Is there any law against doing that if it's all safe and goes with disposal laws? I'm in Santa Clara County, California, USA. Please let menknow and name your source(s)
I dont mean keeping the dead animal, i mean just getting them, colecting the bones and properly cleaning them. and then properly disposing of the skin and what not. Is that legal or what?
Theoretically, you should have a "scavenger's permit". This would cover your posession of the skeletal remains. From a practical point of view, I doubt that anyone would arrest you for picking up the carcasses but posession of endangered species would be against the law. Check with the state DEP.
