How much would it cost to put a 1.6-2.0 L diesel in a toyota pickup?
I am wondering the type of bank I would have to put down in order to put a diesel engine in one of the older toyota pickups like 1990-1994. I live in Southern california and I have just realized the rediculous mileage that people are getting from their small diesel engines in europe. Why doesn't vw make those cars in the US?
ANyway I'd like to know how much, the mpgs I could expect and also how much more it would be to convert to biodiesel.
you dont convert a deisel engine to run on bio deisel you convert vegetable oil to run in a deisel engine, they were originally designed to use vegetable oil anyway, it is only the older type deisels that are safe to run on bio deisel as it will cause problems if you run it on the new commen rail direct injection deisels. as for the conversion it couldn be simpler, you just need a dona vehcile for the tank and fuel pipes and low pressure fuel pump {deisels have a high pressure pump on the engine so doesnt need the high pressur pump from a petrol injection just a simple lift pump like you get on a carbed engine willl be fine} can keep the radiator and there isnt exactly much wiring to do just the starter and alternator just need to makesure you can get a deisel engine that will fit the existing mounts of the pick up, for a proffesion conversion if you supply everything needed i dont think it will cost anymore than £500 in labour aslong as they dont need to make new mounts etc as this will add to the bill dramatically. think you could expect 50mpg from a 2lt deisel {old type} more if you fit the new type but you have to drive it steady, use too much throttle and they burn more deisel than a petrol burns petrol
