Preserve Your Ford Car Battery
No matter what the manufacturer says, there are no maintenance free car batteries! If your Ford battery dies, your car won't start and you'll be stranded wherever you happen to be. You can extend the life of your battery and prevent becoming stranded with a few simple battery maintenance tips. Maryland area Ford dealers are used to replacing batteries for drivers – but you can reduce the need for new batteries with the following tips:
Keep Battery Clean
A simple way to prevent the battery from draining prematurely is to keep it clean. Just wipe the battery case down with a damp rag. If there is a lot of built up grime, you can use a mild soap, like dish detergent, to help remove it.
Posts and Terminals
Purchase a brass wire battery brush from the store. Loosen and remove the black cable (or the one labeled with a minus sign), then remove the red, positive cables second. Once removed, dip your brass wire brush in a mixture of baking soda and water and scrub the battery posts or terminals. This will remove any corrosion that has occurred. Then reconnect the wires, positive wire first. You can coat the terminals with a thin coat of grease to prevent corrosion.
