Car Crime and Protexting Your Car

Car crime is something that has been an issue since cars became common in the UK, and police are eager to address the issues to keep our vehicles safer.

Advances in car security, CCTV in parking areas and people being more aware has meant that car crime levels have dropped, but it still happens and if you have the misfortune to have your car broken into or stolen, you will find it distressing and a pain to try and recover your items.

A lot of people use sat navs nowadays, and stick it to the window. If you are not in the car, remove the sat nav and all components and take it with you, or hide it away in the glove compartment. A good idea is to keep some wipes in your vehicle, as savvy thieves may notice the suction mark at sat nav leaves and break into your car to check.

Neighbourhood watch helps to fight car crime, as members of the public are invited to fill out a small form when they see a vehicle with valuables on display; the police then send a warning letter to the owner to be more vigilant.

Trap cars are an interesting new tool used by police forces across the country. The police fit a car with camera and when a criminal breaks in, it records the whole thing this means the police can catch the thief and use the evidence in court to make sure they are prosecuted.

Park in well lit areas at night, as a break in may mean you have to claim on your Car Insurance.
