Cash For Clunkers Rebate questions?
1) Can I use the rebate I get from CFC (assuming I'm qualified) at a car auction or bodyshop for the new car I'm about to buy from an auction?
2) Can I trade in a Nissan, get my money, and use that money at a Mitsubishi dealership?
So I can't buy a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse with the rebate money if the dealership has one available? I have to buy a 2009 or 2010!?
And do you need to bring citizenship information and all that jazz when applying for the rebate?
You will never see the 'cash for clunkers' money check. It goes directly to the dealer from the government. Dealer, in turn, will reduce the price of the new car by that amount. You can get up to $4500 off the new car. I don't believe you can do this at an auction.
You need to check if your Nissan even qualifies for this program, it has to be within certain age range and it has to only get up to 18mpg average. I don't know if any Nissan is that bad on gas, they are typically above 20mpg, even older models. Go to 'cash for clunkers' website to see if your car is eligible.
Assuming your car is eligible, you take it directly to the Mitsubishi dealership if you're looking to buy a new Mitsubishi.
