has anyone bought a car through the cash for clunkers program?
I am thinking of trying to buy a new car through the governments cash for clunkers program and i just wanted to no if anyone had done it and the process they had to take to do it?
I sell cars and have done several deals through the program. It's a great program that's helping a lot of people, but it's a pain in the butt. You can go to www.cars.gov to find out if you qualify and exactly what you need. To make it short and sweet, this is the way to do it, get all your paperwork together before you go. Clean Title, registration showing it's been owned for the entire past year, insurance showing it's been insured for the entire past year. If you even missed one day you can't use the program. If you have all that it shouldn't be too long. Go in and tell them you want to use the program, s they can verify that you qualify. Pick out a car you like, negotiate on the numbers, the sales person has to copy everything and print up some papers needed for the program...they have to make sure you will be able to be financed, and that's about it. Sounds simple, and it is, if you have everything and you qualify. I spent about 2 hours on the phone with Farmers Insurance agents trying to get them to send me the correct paperwork for one of the deals I did. It was complicated. She was insured under her Mom's policy, but they sent me papers with only the Mom's name, not hers, which I couldn't use. Had to get in touch with corporate at 8pm (that's not easy!) and it was tough to get it all together. The last one I did was super quick. Took 2 hours. He had everything he needed. Be prepared to stay for about 4 hours or so. Bring a good book. It's a great program, use it if you can, before it's gone.
