What are the most common problems driving long distance?
I need to drive from Houston, TX to Camden, NJ. 1600 miles, and i only have enough cash for gas and cigarettes. No hotels, no food. (im just gonna pull over to sleep, and pack snacks). And no money if i were to break down.. nor do i have AAA. I drive a 1998 Saturn SL1 with a 106k miles on the rebuilt engine. But an overall 200k mileage on the car itself. New tires, good battery, oil just changed, alignment just done, and full on coolant, and clutch fluid. However i do have a check engine light for my EGR valve but cant afford that fix right now. Will this be plausible? And what are the main things i need to worry about? Also has anyone else driven across half the country with a saturn and lived to tell about it? Thanks.
/-- Yes i have a Garmin Nuvi 3000 GPS to follow and enough blankets to stay warm. As well as a spare tire in good shape. I also forgot to mention its a stick, so not only will i save gas, but itll keep me awake and focused. As far as im concerned..
Elwood: It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.
Jake: Hit it.
I've done similar when I was young. Car sounds like it is good for at least 10,000 miles. Nicotine stops the hunger pangs and keeps you awake. 800 miles, about 15 hours with a couple of breaks, 6 hours sleep in the car, 800 miles more. It is do-able. About the same as an Iron Butt Ride.
