how do i cash my check?
ok im 16 and i just started working at subway in buffalo ny and i am getting my first paycheck this friday. the problem is my mom said she is going to make me keep all my money in the bank and save it and i have no choice. i do not want to save it all i only want to save half of it for a car. i am probably going to use HSBS bank to cash the check. can i cash it without my moms permission? i do not have a bank account. do i need one to cash a check? can i open one without my mom? what type of ID should i bring? all i have is my school id for picture id and i have my social security card somewhere and my birth certificate.
New York State Law says an employer must pay in cash. But an employer can get permission from the state to pay by check. But one of the terms in order to get permission is that the employer must be able to show that an employee can easily cash their paycheck. Many times an employer will have an agreement with the bank that the check is drawn on that the bank will cash any of the paychecks whether or not the employee has an account there or not.
Another way, in a business that deals with cash, they may cash your check right at the place of business.
Anyway, tell your boss your problem and let him/her figure out a way for you to cash your check. It is their obligation to make sure you can cash your paycheck.
