how do i swap vin numbers on a car?
Hi i live in manitoba canada, some guy abandoned a 87 bmw 325i in my friends yard, it was there for the past 2 years, no word from the owner since. my friend is sick of it, so he said i could have it. its sweet! it has sport leather seat, body kit, and aftermarket exhaust just a little fixer upper. what he told me was i should just swap vin numbers instead of striping it, he said all i have to do is go to a junk yard and get a title for a old non working car with the same name, then jus switch them, and take it in for a safety and thats it? is this true? are there any other vin #'s i have to swap? and could they find out? give me your input and thank you for your time.
That would be illegal. VINS are specific to cars, and any alteration to them is a crime.
