Is anyone else disturbed that the Cash for Clunkers is destroying viable cars?
I am disturbed that there are so many people in this country without transportation, whole families, and Cash for Clunkers is destroying not just large, gas guzzling vehicles but family vehicles like mini-vans with small 6-cylinders in them to sell more cars. I am disturbed by the total waste that is happening here, and now they are asking for more MONEY? How about donating the more viable, more efficient cars to agencies that can distribute them to needy families who could use them to get to work, school, etc. instead of pouring sand in the crankcases and selling them for scrap? Any thoughts?
Well Duh: It has been proven that MOST of the cars here in Orlando-area did not meet the criteria for the program but were accepted anyway. I imagine that dealers everywhere relaxed their standards to make the deals happen. In theory it was just an okay idea... How do you like it NOW?
Yep. As the morning news spanned the camera over a single car lot, I saw at least SIX VEHICLES that I would cut off my right arm to own;
example: a beautiful 2005 black BMW with "CFC -- CRUSH" written across the back of it.
For the savings of a few miles per gallon, they are destroying perfectly good vehicles and then taking the engines and transporting them all the way to China to be reconditioned or repurposed, and then shipping them all the way back here to the States. Now I ask you: how much saving of the environment are we actually realizing with the fuel necessary to transport all those weighty parts to and from China? Not to mention the unusable scrap from each car ending up in the landfill.
This is a perfect example of idiot environmental nutjobs who interfere with either nature, or the free market capitalist system, thinking they are doing some good for the Earth when actually when its all said and done they've SCREWED IT UP EVEN WORSE. Somebody should tell these tree-huggers to do us all a favor and STOP THINKING, because if they had a brain, they'd be even more dangerous than they are now.
Going one step further, THE MONEY BEING USED FOR THIS PROGRAM WAS SUPPOSED TO GO TO STIMULATING THE JOB MARKET. Remember all those folks who are losing their job at the rate of 500,000 per week? Obama and his cronies have done absolutely nothing to address the two major things that will bring our economy back: The housing market and the credit catastrophe.
Instead, he put those on the back burner and moved onto energy legislation that would raise all peoples electric bills over $1000.00 per year, whether you are rich or poor, if you plug in, you pay. This is how Obama is raising taxes on the middle class using a sleazy back door method. The other thing Obama is doing instead of fixing the economy is trying to move us to a govt-run healthcare debacle.
Don't be fooled: the cash for clunkers program was not put into effect because the obama team cares so deeply for the people, but rather that he cares so deeply for the auto industry and their UNIONS. If they don't sell cars, they will have to lay people off and Obama is in bed with the Unions. This is just another auto bailout disguised as a caring program for you and your family. If it didn't bail out the unions, you wouldn't be seeing one shiney dime off your next vehicle purchase.
