Will a VIN tell me if the car was in an auction?*?
This guy is selling a black 2000 Hyundai Elantra, 140k, at, for $1500. He said he got it from an insurance auction and that its fine...and that i will be happy with it. He said to bring a mechanic if i wanted too. He's giviing me the VIN later this evening. Im just wondering, do auctions sell cars for hella cheap? Any facts will help. I really need a car and this is the cheapest i have found. Im hella thritfy...i have to be, im only 20 and kinda broke every so often!!!!LOL
my plan is this>>>.go see car and and SAY, not ask, that i will be taking it for a diognostic/quick safety check up and see what he says....I can afford to lose$120 or so but not pay for hella repairs in the long run. Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitttttttttttttttttt.....
*oh, how else can i found out what exact auction it was in? The guy seemed pretty sincere, but i know that sellers hold back info!!!

A VIN wont tell you much. You can take the VIN and run a Carfax though, and that mighrt reveal some information.
Make sure that this is not a salvage title car though. I deal with insurance reclamation every day, and almost all are salvage title, rebuilt, or salvage certificates of resale. If its a salvage title, you may still have an OK car, but its value is about 30% of the low book. Fine if you want to keep it and run it til the wheels fall off - as long as your mechanic checsk for frame damage.
