Where can I find California spec auto parts?
I have to have some work done on my 92 Camry LE (4 cyl) to get it to pass smog. One of the problems is that the exhaust manifold is cracked and being made of cast iron, it can't be welded. The problem here is that I live in California which has strict environmental laws. Several dealers (Autozone, Kragen, etc) have exhaust manifolds, but they are not California Spec (and would cause me to fail smog check). The only place I can find them other than a Dealership is a junk yard and every one I could find was also cracked. In the same place. Which indicates a design flaw.
Where can I find an aftermarket California Spec exhaust manifold for a 92 Toyota Camry LE v4 2.2L for under $120? Or am I going to have to buy a different car?
The manifolds at RockAuto are not legal in California. The first one from ATP follows Federal spec and Canada spec. The one from Dorman says Exc. Calif
If your only concern is to get it to pass emissions until you find a replacement. Then you can use something called JB Weld $4 to fill the crack temporarily. It molds like clay but hardens like steel. On it's package it claims to permanently fix exhaust cracks. And btw iron CAN be re-welded, but on something as rusty as a manifold... i don't recommend it. If you're more concerned with your hydrocarbons output. Here's a few tips.... Use premium gas, add fuel injector cleaner or octane booster, and give your vehicle time to warm up by drive around town prior to getting tested. Keep searching the junkyards and you can easily find new oem camry exhaust manifold for $80 online. It only took me 20secs to find this. BTW 92-95 camry manifolds are the same, so you can use a 93 on your 92.
Link to new manifold $80.
