How do I get a title for my car if the dealership closed down? ?
I bought a used car from a dealership and paid them off about 6 months ago. Well I never received the clean title without the lien on it. So anyways I went back and the place was empty. Then about a month later it reopened under a new name and the new owners said they have no records from the previous owners and I would have to go to the Department of Transportation or something. Can someone help me? Is this right? I live in Minnesota. I just bought a new car and want to give this hunk of junk to my brother so I need a title asap.
I have read online that this is a problem everywhere and is a major scam. So I guess it would be safe to say that the auto dealer did not do their part. So what now? How can I contact a place that no longer exists.?? Bottom line I wanted to give the car to my brother because his broke down and mine is just sittin in the driveway collecting dust. Can I still transfer the title to him? How?
Go to your local tag agency they can tell you what to do. The problem you are going to have though is if the dealer you bought it from did not file a lien release it could be a problem.
