Hillman Imps.?

A recent question asked about mini coopers, I recently owned a 1968 Hillman Imp I had to let go in 2004. I owned it since 1991 when had 30,000 miles on the clock, I only put an extra 5000 miles on it before sale.

Archives suggest a 'North American' version of the Imp existed, there is definitely notes for the variants in the old Haynes manuals.

I'm guessing these cars only existed in Canada or upstate New York, The anomoly of the british version is that most of the chassis numbers are unaccounted for, i.e. the cars were never scrapped. Read into this what you will. It may have something to do with the aluminium alloy engine mounted in the back. A lot of them were taken for water pumps for fire engines in the UK.

I digress. Does anyone in the US or Canada have a Hillman Imp, pre. 1975 ?.
.

I absolutely loved those little cars :)
As a child my uncle had one and even though it gave him problems on numerous occasions he idolized it. It was a massive head turner at any event. It is in his garden now to this day with a thick tarpaulin cast over it. He often reminisces about what he carried in it and what speeds he reached - though the later is when hes had a drink.
Thumbs up for the IMP.
