Scrap Car Netting

scrap car netting
Is mixing tyre sizes legal in the UK?

I've just changed my car and about to scrap my old one. The problem is, the new car has two tyres that need replacing. I'd just bought 2 new ones for my old car before the clutch went. The tyres on my old car are 185/60 R14 and on the new car 155/55 R13. My mate reckons that I'm OK to put the two new ones on my new car to get use out of them as long as I don't mix size on the same axle (It's not a 4x4 by the way, just a standard Ford Escort). Is this right? He's usually pretty knowledgable about such things but some second confirmation(s) would be good. Only info I can find about this on the net is about mixing cross-plies and radials.

I thought Crossply was extinct now?

As long as you don't mix on the same axle, then you should be OK. The big downside tho is that you now need to carry two spares - one of each size - unless you can confidently predict where your next puncture will be
