Scrap Car No V5
January 10th, 2011 by admin

DVLA fine for scrapped car !?!?

OK, lets see if I can explain this correctly. I had a car that was taken away for scrap by a company. I got the V5 form signed and the V5 was sent to the DVLA (so in my view that was it). A few days ago I got a letter from the DVLA explaining that I have an unlicensed vehicle and am being fined £80 + £30 admin fee. I tried contacting them but no one wants to talk on the phone. My question is has anyone else had this problem ? after reading the paper work I should of received a notice of destruction within 4 weeks but since I have moved address (my post was redirected) I simply forgot to chase up. Even if I pay the fine will the car still be registered in my name and how can I tell them its been scrapped as I now have no V5 ? I don't want to pay any fine , but if i have to what stops them from saying again that its unlicensed ?

Most of the time the fines are automated if the computer flags up your reg and tax details .
Like most of the replies above .
Write to DVLA stating all your details name reg the name of the company/ scrap yard etc etc , but DUPLICATE ALL CORRESPONDENCE letters you send and DATE them .

I had sort of the same befor SORN was started as someone reported my donor car for no tax when it was parked off the road on a privet car park . Ended up having to take photo's and make a map stating lamp posts pavements etc etc .
after all that it was dropped .

But FIGHT it all the way to court if u have to , don't bow down them as soon as you pay that fine you ADMIT that your Guilty . ( when in fact your NOT )
