Getting rid of a parts car with a lien on it?
I purchased this car shortly after I bought my daily driver. I bought it from a lady that had a lien on it, and it was purchased with this understanding. I received a bill of sale, but no ownership. What is the best way of getting rid of the car? I phoned a scrap dealer and they're looking for the VIN number, but I'm unsure weather I'll get stuck with paying the lien on the car or what else will happen if I give it to them. What should I do?
You bought a car that you can do NOTHING with until the lien is paid off. The lender still has legal rights to the car. You can't part it out; you must maintain it in a drivable condition.. A bill of sale is of no use without a clear title. The scrap dealer can't even accept the car until the lien is paid off. The person who's name is on the title (presumably the lady you bought the car from) is still liable for the lien.
What should you do? Give the car back to the lady and demand your money back. She had no rights or permission from the lender to sell the car to you. You can tell her that if she doesn't give you your money back, you'll notify the lender. But it sounding like this lady won't even care. She's got your money.
