Scrapping A Car How Much Can I Get

scrapping a car how much can i get
How to aquire an abandoned car?

I crashed my 1972 buick skylark two years ago. I'm having a tough time finding replacement parts. I noticed another 72 skylark in a storage lot just down the street from my work. I approached the owner of the lot to get some info on the car or the cars owner. He told me the car was in the lot when he purchased the business and he has no record of who owns the vehicle. It has been sitting in the back corner for the last three years. If it isn't claimed by the end of january he will be taking it to the scrap yard. How should I go about aquiring this car? Should I offer the lot owner money? I will just be using the car as a parts car, wont need to register it or anything, so no need for pink slip, but there is a danger of him accusing me of stealing and me having no way of proof of purchase. How can I find out who is the legal owner of this car? Will I be able to trace it by the VIN and license plate? I don't want to wait and lose this car as it's pretty much everything I need. Ideas?

What you should do is offer the owner of the lot whatever you think the car is worth (He'll probably be happy just to be rid of it) and have him sign a bill of sale. A bill of sale simply states that he sold the car to you. Al though it's pretty obvious that the "owner" of the car has no interest in it anymore, remove and destroy the licence plates and VIN plates just to be safe.
