Scrapping A Car How To
June 4th, 2011 by admin

scrapping a car how to
What should I do with this car - scrap or sale?

I'm in the UK, I have a 1995 ford escort with a head gasket that has gone. I would rather replace the car than get it repaired.

What can I do with the car, how much would I be likely to get for it for scrap? How much might I be able to sell it for?
It's a 1.3, and the bodywork and interior aren't in great condition. Maybe I should just drive it into the river!!

price of scrap has fallen badly in the UK, you'd be lucky to get it uplifted free. And its only worth a few hundred quid in good running order. What engine is it? Head gasket in the 1.3 is easy to do, 16v engine is a bit harder and the diesel is the hardest. It might be worth fixing if you could get £300 trading it in against something else.

Edit: Depending on how much you are prepared to spend, some places are offering £1000 minimum trade in, usually car supermarkets, but they require the trade in to be running and mot'd (even if its just for 1 month). If you drive it into the river and it washes up you'll be billed for the recovery! It's a no win situation I'm afraid!
