Can you give me any tips for finding a great car deal?
Hi - I need to get a car. I either want to get a used car for around 2k or get a new car for around 6k on a great finance deal. Does anyone have any ideas for particular deals, or generally good websites or dealerships (Oxford area). I'd like a little nippy car that is around 1.2-1.4 litre engine, Thanks so much - I'm finding it all really confusing as some are showing lower prices with scrappage allowance in tiny print (I don't have a car to scrap btw) Thanks very much!
The first answer is spot on.
There is no such thing as a 'great' finance deal - any allowance, either part ex or scrappage, other discounts, or low interest deals will be completely offset by depreciation on any new car. Cars are so cheap & reliable as a whole that a used car is just the obvious choice.
Car auctions are a great place to shop if you know what you're doing or have a friend who does - I've seen, bought & sold lovely cars sell for £300 - £400 that will give years of trouble free service.
At £2,000, you have a huge choice - and don't listen to those who say auctions are full of rubbish: There are always some awful cars, but many good ones too - where do you think your local car dealers buy from?
