Can my soon to be ex fiance keep or sell my truck without my permission?
I’ve tried to break up with my fiance, in the past and the last time she parked her car behind my antique truck that I am fixing up, so I couldn’t get it moved if I did leave. I would have to tow it and she knows that. She also knows that it is one of the few things I like. I own it and the truck title is in my name. She also has threatened to call a salvage yard and have it towed for scrap if I try to leave her. Both of our names are on the house lease.
If I break up with her what do I do? It may have to sit for a couple days because it will take most of my money to pay a deposit to rent a house somewhere else.
If you are serious about this. really serious, than what you need to do is take a trip to your local police station and speak with an officer about the situation and potential situation. Provide him with copies of your ownership for the vehicle. Now it is on file with the authorities so that if anything does happen to the truck, she will be held accountable for theft or fraud. If the house lease is in both of your names, then she has no right to have it removed from the property because it is your property too. Unfortunately, you will need to figure out a way to take it with you when you leave. Try to trick her...tell her...before you break up with her, it is being towed to a shop so that you can finish some work on the carb, or tranny or it can get painted or something...something she knows YOU can ot do yourself. Innocent enough for her to believe she has to move her car so you can move it. I know it's lying, but it's better than losing your truck. Then, once it is out of there, have it towed to wherever you are going to keep it. Go home and break up with her. Sounds complicated, I know, but it's just to give you an idea of how to solve this dilemma. Get your brain going and you will figure something out. If you know the relationship is about to tank..it is best to prepare yourself and make sure your truck is protected. It is illegal for her to do ANYTHING to that truck. Let the police know what your plan is. As well. If you do break up before you have had a chance to move the truck, and she refuses to move her car so you can have the truck towed, you can then call the officer you spoke with, who will drive to your house and make her move her car so the tow truck can get it out. She can not hold it hostage. You will need to get the law on your side if this is all going to go that far. Good luck!
