How to determine the yearly depreciation value for cars in Singapore?
PARF? COE? Scrap Values? all confuse me...
The PARF values of cars is depend on it Date of Registration.
- For car Registered before May 2002, the PARF rebate is from 80% (Above 9 but not exceeding 10 years) to 130% (Not exceeding 5 years) of OMV (Open Market Value).
- For car registered from May 2002 onwards, the PARF rebate is from 50% (Above 9 but not exceeding 10 years) to 75% (Not exceeding 5 years) of ARF (Additional Registration Fee).
The COE rebate is pro-rated to the number of months and days remaining on the vehicle's COE.
Scrap values is just the worth of the car body, which meant how much it's worth if export or send to scrape yard.
For example, if you buy a new car now, let assume the OMV is S$12,000, and the car cost you S$50,000.
- ARF = S$13,200
- COE = S$17,001 (Latest COE price)
After 10 years, the PARF rebate is 50% of S$13,200, which is S$6600. Which meant your yearly depreciation is (S$50,000 - S$6,600) / 10 = S$4,400.
However, if you scrap the car on the 5th year, the rebate you get will be:
PARF rebate = 75% of S$13,200 = S$9,900
COE rebate = S$17,001 / 2 = S$8,500.
Total rebate is S$18,400 (they called it's "paper value").
