should I sell or part out my damaged civic?
I have a 97 civic coupe ex. It has 135000 miles on it and runs good mechanically but it was hit by a bus and has a lot of damage. Here is a list of the damage.
- the drivers side door and fender need to be replaced.
- The front axle and suspension also needs to be replaced
- The front passenger wheel needs to be replaced.
- The front frame has been damaged and needs to be straightened.
On top of that the car is PNO and previously salvaged and I live in California. I took it to a mechanic and he said it would be just under $3000 for total repairs. I dunno if he was giving me a high balling me or what.
I was thinking of parting it out and selling the rest for scrap. Or selling it. If I were to sell it, could i do it without having to remove the pno? How much could I get from it parting out vs. selling it whole. Any info would be much appreciated... Thanks!
From my expierience with selling things whole and parting it out either it be bicycles. PS2's, PC's. I would imagine a car would be no diffrent you could always gain more money out of selling parts than you would whole IF you can sell them. It all comes down to demand, how many people really need the parts, and would they sell? Take for instance i can sell my XBOX for 40 bucks easily but i take it apart sell the PSU for $15, CD drive for $20,
Mainboard for $30, Cords for $10, Outer caseing for $10 need I say more. That would be a total profit of $45 But do people really need theese parts I dont think many people need the cd drives all that much cause they rarely go out so i would assume it would never sell.
In your case what I would do is come up with a rough example of the price of your car whole then look around and do research on the parts that your car contains and see whats high in demand and whats not. Then do some price checking add it all up what is sure to sell and see if it out weighs your cars example price whole if it does part that bastard out and make you some money if not just bite the bullet and sell it whole.
