How much should I sell this car for?
I'm trying to get rid of my 94 honda civic (four doors, automatic) because I'm tired of constantly fixing it. The Kelly Blue Book site doesn't offer an estimate for a car in 'poor' condition, and mine definitely is - blown head gasket, possible exhaust issues, and the transmission is starting to slip. On the up, it has a new radiator, new battery, and newer tires. The body is rough, with the usual Honda rust in the rear wheel wells, but it passed inspection and is good until 7/10.
How much is a reasonable amount to ask for it?
Also, because of the head, the car overheats in about 5 minutes, and will need a tow.
Kelly Blue Book is a guide for shoppers, as to what prices they might see when buying a car.
It specifically says that it's not to be used to value a car. So, going to KBB wouldn't have helped you anyway.
Given that the car generally sells for around $1200-1500 in good condition...I'd say you should list it for around $500 in the condition it's in.
And list it as "OBO". I will bet you get offers around $200 or so.
To fix that car, it will cost almost double the value of the vehicle anyway....which makes it worth basically nothing to a buyer.
And just a point of semantics, that's not how much you're selling the car for. It's what you're listing it for. How much you will sell it for, is to be determined between you and the buyer.
