I signed my title over without a notary. Do I have anything to worry about?
I sold my car today. I received the $700 cash in hand. The person buying the car wanted to put the car in his Dad's name who was not present. I signed the title over and gave it to him. He took the car home.
He says that he knows a notary who will sign off on it. I also had him sign a very simple contract saying that he bought the car from me for $700.
Do I have anything to worry about? Or is this a done deal on my end?
The release of interest on the title doesn't need to be notorized, so you have done the right thing. One more thing to do though, file your Seller's Report of Sale with the DMV, this notifies the DMV that you have sold the car, released interest, and if the person who purchased it doesn't title in a timely manner, or the car is involved in a wreck, you will not be held responsible. This is a very important final step in your transaction.
