Sell My Car Jacksonville Florida
October 5th, 2010 by admin

How long does a car dealer have to issue title and paperwork to someone?

I bought a car in Jacksonville Florida on the 6th of November. It was an "As is purchase." The dealer did not give me any temporary tags because I reside in GA. He gave me a paper that would allow me to drive my car for 30 days...and that he would send out all the paperwork and I should receive it in 2 weeks. As it is, he sold me a car that didnt work so I am stuck with a broken vehicle, no means of transportation, and no title or paperwork in hand...any advice? Can I do anything?

Yes, contact the dealer and remind them your 30 day permit to drive is about to run out. See what they say. As to it being broken, as is means as is.

You do have some options though. You can have the vehicle towed to your mechanic to see what is wrong, and perhaps get it fixed, giving you a car to drive at least.

Once the dealer gets his act together and gets you the title, you can turn around and sell it. Of course if you don't fix it you'd get far less than you would if it was fixed. Then at least you'd have some cash to go looking for another car.

When you had it inspected before the purchase, what did your mechanic say about it then? You didn't do that? Then for the next one, I suggest you do. As you found out, it can save you money in the long run.
