Forms required when selling a car in Kentucky?
Location: KY
I'm selling my car to a local buyer and would like to know what forms are needed when selling a car. Does my bill of sale have to be notarized? What other steps will I need to take? Thanks.
You'll just need the car title -- there's places on the back of it for transferring. Just fill in the blanks -- one for mileage, one for selling price, then there's places for the buyer and sellers names and signatures. Yes you'll need to have it notarized -- you can do the transfer at the court house with both parties present (just wait to sign until you get there) or you can use a notary at a bank or someone you know. If the local buyer is in state the plates stay with the car . . . if it's going out of state you need to keep the plates, turn them into the court house and sign an affidavit stating the car was sold out of state.
