Steps to take when selling a car?
I live in Kentucky
I am selling my car for $10,000, there is still $2400 owed on it, I do not have a copy of my registration
What steps do I need to take to have this sold? I've looked online but there are so many pointless websites that give little to no info that I figured this would be a better place to ask
Do I need to get the $10,000, go pay off the remainder of the loan, then goto the County Clerks office and have it transfered?
What papers do I need to fill out, how much am I looking at for tax (KY sales tax is 6%, dont know if auto is the same or not)
Any help would be greatly appreciated, trying to get this taken care of by the weekend
The buyer was planning on writing me two checks, one for the amount remaining, he could also just go pay that off himself if I was there couldn't he? Then a check for the remainder
well the buyer is correct if he/she pays off the bank they will release the title to you. then you can sign it over to them. get the bill of sale paper from the dmv and thats should be it.
the sales tax should apply to the buyer not the seller. check in on that.
