Can you part out your car?
I have an older car that has bad engine and can only get about $500 at most if I sell it.
I could get about $200 at a junk yard.
If I part it out myself, I'm thinking I could get about at least $1,000 for it.
I am thinking about doing this from my parent's home by advertising on craigslist.com.
Once the car has been stripped with nothing left but the skeleton, what do i do with it? Will junkyard take it away then or what?
do I need a permit to do this? I'm only doing this to one car. I'm in los angeles.

Sure you can.... You MIGHT get 1000 for it if you part it out, you might get more, you might get less. However, it can take quite a while to get that 1000 dollars. I've parted out vehicles before. I have four sitting in my yard, one of which has been there for almost four years and maybe got me 350 for it over the four years. I didn't pay anything for it, so not a big deal. It all depends on what you got and how badly people need or want parts for it.
The junkyard or a scrap yard will take the shell. They probably won't give you much of anything for it, but they'll take it.
As for the permits... most likely no... but maybe. It is California after all. You would probably be "causing cancer" and "polluting the air" by doing this. Just keep the car in a garage and nobody will know.
