Can my car be test driven with an expired registration?
I let the registration lapse on my old car because I was buying a new one. Now I'd like to sell my old car. If prospective buyers want to take it for a test drive, but the registration expired last month, who is liable for the citation if they get pulled over? I am selling the car in Virginia.

Can it be? Sure, when you turn the key, if it starts it can be driven. But since you let the registration expire, it shouldn't be, and you shouldn't let buyers drive it. If they get a ticket it goes to you as owner of the car.
