Sell My Car Without Title
August 25th, 2010 by admin

sell my car without title
Is it safe to sell my car without a title?

I am selling it to a junk dealer. The title is lost and it's just too much trouble to get a title for this wreck of a car. My only concern is that the car is registered in my name and I am worried that if something happens after the car is out of my hands that I will be liable. How should I proceed? I'm in California, if that matters. thanks!
Also my mother is the lien holder, but knows I am sellling the car.
IT's a 2001 Chevy Metro

As long as you own the car, you could be held legally liable for anything that happens to or with it. I'd check out this article from e-how and follow their steps. http://www.ehow.com/how_4487400_sell-car-title.html The most important information would be to put something in writing with the junk dealer - "I agree to buy/sell this car with VIN 12345667" and keep the bill of sale in case anything does happen.
