Why do people crave full service gas stations so much?
I am from NJ, and truly hate not being allowed to pump my own gas. I mean, sometimes I have to wait as long as a couple minutes for an attendant to come up to my car just to do something that I could have done immediately upon pulling up. Then I have to wait another few minutes just for them to take the goddam pump out, which would have taken me a millisecond to do myself. Its also embarrassing that I live in the only place on the planet, (oregonians can pump their motorcycles), where I can't pump my own gas. I understand that they want to preserve jobs, but can't these guys just work as cashiers, plenty of people would rather pay in cash than using a credit card. They could also be used to help those who need assistance, or those who want a simple car wash or engine check. Why is the state so square?
I live in Oregon and I don't like the "you're to stupid to pump your own gas" law also. As far as the remark about motorcycles. We still have to wait for the attendant to start the pump, then hand us the nozzle. I have seen people drive off without paying, and people drive off with the nozzle still in their car. So those arguments are not valid. I grew up in Washington State and my first job was working at a full serve gas station, where we had both full serve and self serve gas. What's next, outlawing gas cans so you have to bring your lawn mower in to be filled?
