I'm selling my car to a dealer for cash. It has a lien. How can I best protect myself from fraud?
Hi. Never sold a car privately before. I have a S2000 I am selling to a private (used car) detailer. The car has a lien on it. What is the best way to ensure everything goes smoothly and I dont get screwed in the transaction? Specific paperwork/ types of payment?
It shouldn't be too difficult or something to worry about since the dealer will have to pay off your loan to obtain the title to the car. Call your lender and advise what you are doing, that way if there are any problems they can follow up with you. Don't forget to send in a notice of transfer to the DMV so you won't be held liable for any tickets incurred before the title is actually changed.
