What do you do when you hit another car?
Today my sister was driving when she hit another car. Don't worry it was just a scrap and everyone is okay. I was just wondering for future references, what do you do if you hit another car? Do you call the cops and have them sort everything out or can you take care of it yourself? Also if you have to call the cops every time what number would you call?
Yes, you have to call the cops. If there are no injuries and the cars are not blocking traffic, then you call the non-emergency number.
Then, after you get home, you call the insurance company and report it to them. Do not call the insurance company from the scene of the accident. There is a lot of information that they need and information they need to give you, so it is better to be prepared to write and provide the info you get from the cops/other party from the safety of your home. The insurance company cannot do anything for you from the scene of the collision.
