Who owns the car? The person who's cash pays for it or the person who is down on the logbook?
My ex-partner bought a car using a loan she got from from the bank specifically for that purpose. But her new partner took her cash down and got his name put on the logbook. Now there on the verge of breaking up and he is saying he is keeping the car but it belongs to her. How does she go about keeping her car and stop him from stealing it?
Look at the registration document for any vehicle and in section 5 it clearly says:
"The Registered Keeper is not necessarily the legal owner".
Proving who is the legal owner can be a minefield, however, as it's usually regarded as the person who has the sales receipt.
The only way she can prove she owns the car is in a court of law (unless her partner changes his mind). She needs to speak to a solicitor or C.A.B. for the best advice.
